Read Time:3 Minute, 29 Second

Over the past couple of months, the world has been gradually stricken by what seems to be its greatest threat in decades. Often times on this site, I talk about things that have a lot to do with fictional characters across different mediums. Heroes that rise above insurmountable odds. Corrupt villains with no remorse and contempt for all. However, we are faced with an entity that even some of the most corrupt people want no parts of. A force so powerful that even Daniel Craig’s James Bond could not use his License to Kill to stop it (and he took on a mammoth of a man named Dave Bautista!). This virus, COVID-19, is a virus the likes of which no one has ever seen, has brought nearly the entire planet to its knees.

It had been brewing somewhere around Wuhan, China back in January, but COVID-19, also known as the strongest strain of a Coronavirus, has spread throughout the world, with most countries handling fairly well, such as China, with strict stay-at-home orders issues by governments with very short lists of essential businesses (hospitals, Grocery stores, telecommunications call centers) operating. Other countries, namely here in the United States, have done what I’d call, in my opinion, a piss-poor job, so much that our local, state, and federal levels of government seem to be grasping at straws to try to flatten the curve of infection swelling within the nation, despite nearly every medical facility across the land not having enough facilities, or Personal Protection Equipment (Masks, medical aprons, etc.) to take care of people that are infected, on top of people with other urgent health concerns.

The worldwide spread of COVID-19 has also led to the shutdown of many industries. Restaurants, bars and taverns can no longer invite patrons in to eat, drink, and presumably, be merry. Movie releases, one of them featuring the aforementioned James Bond in No Time to Die, were postponed indefinitely. Sports organizations (except, strangely enough, professional wrestling), including the shot-making, high flying court commanders of the NBA, put their respective seasons to an abrupt halt. Air travel, hasn’t been completely grounded, but it has been stifled and mass gatherings have been advised to cease throughout nearly all 50 states, this where the concept of “social distancing” comes in.

There are some of you who don’t fit the bill of essential workers, who refuse to adhere to the idea of not leaving your homes. Maybe you don’t think you can handle being “cooped up” in the house, or maybe you might think this pandemic is a hoax, however, doing this has been proven to be effective for flattening the curve of infection for COVID-19. Don’t believe me? Ask the entire country of South Korea. In layman’s terms: if you want us all to get back to normal life, with people working again, and children going back to school, I’ll ask you one thing:

PLEASE STAY THE HELL HOME.

There are many people that the virus won’t affect at all, if they catch it. You reader, may be one of those people… however, if you, and many others don’t practice this “social distancing” thing, you’ll probably pass it off to someone that has some kind of pre-existing condition… or someone physically disabled, or even someone with an auto-immune deficiency. These, along with elderly people, are the lives that the Coronavirus affects the most. No, this isn’t some tyrannical hoax to strip us of our freedoms, as some would have you believe. This is serious. Don’t be selfish…we must work together to save lives here. Please, even if it may be hard for you, think of others, throw selfishness out the window for a little while, and let’s flatten this curve.

ps. A quick shout out to all of my fellow healthcare workers all across the country, and all over world. Doctors, Nurses, medical assistants, anyone who has to work in a hospital building during this time of crisis, I appreciate, and thank every single one of you.
